The study used a survey research design, and the sample was chosen using a two-stage process that included judgmental and stratified random sampling. For data estimation, multiple regression analysis and one-way ANOVA were used. The study found that consumers in particular retail outlets within University of Calabar's Output Outlets in Cross River State, Nigeria, are significantly impacted by free samples of products. The study suggested that retailers try to use tactics for sales promotions aggressively since it would increase volume of sales and delay the expiration date of some products that are currently on the shelf. Additionally, it is best to oppose giving away free things in exchange for a token payment, as this practice irritates customers and reduces brand loyalty because many of them are unlikely to return for such a product.
