Understanding Gender Inequality and Patriarchy Issues in National Development Metropolis in Nigeria

Abstract

When the word "gender" is spoken, most people immediately associate it with women, who face obstacles and are frequently placed in a disadvantageous position in relation to men in many civilizations. Consequently, there is a push for numerous programs aimed at empowering women in order to mitigate the negative impacts of their enslavement. This essay looks at gender, attempting to comprehend gender roles that have been established, particularly for women, and how they affect growth. For African development to occur, both men and women must fulfill specific roles. As a result, gender issues and everything associated with them may have an impact on societal advancement. The study used the functionalist method and Axel Honneth's theory of recognition to explain gender and how, if handled properly, it can foster progress. It was found that the outcome will not only result in development but also in sustainable development if both genders are appropriately valued, each playing their part, and neither discriminates against or denigrates any position.
