Monitoring and Evaluation of Education Programme in Nigeria: Benefits, Reasons, Problems and Way Forward

Abstract

This paper discussed implementation challenges facing monitoring and evaluation of educational programme in Nigeria. The paper used secondary data. The secondary data were collected from both print and online publications. Content analysis was used to analyse the selection of literature for the study. The paper identified funding problems, ineffective capacity building programme/training, insecurity, corruption, shortage of professional monitoring and evaluation experts and poor involvement and participation of stakeholder. Based on these findings, the paper hereby recommends that more funds should be allocated into the monitoring and evaluation units in various federal and states ministries of education. Effective capacity building/training should be constantly organized for the official handling monitoring and evaluation of educational programme and policies. Artificial intelligence should be deployed to curtain financial mismanagement in the ministries and departments of education. More certified monitoring and evaluation professionals should be employed and post to various federal and states ministries and agencies of education. Stakeholders in education should always be involved in the monitoring and evaluation of education programme and insecurity problems should be addressed by solving issues breeding insecurities in Nigeria to allow for easy monitoring and evaluation of education programme across the nation.
