Abstract

This study examines the mechanisms through which market equilibrium and price dynamics ensure efficient allocation of resources within competitive markets. Research objectives include identifying the determinants of market equilibrium, analyzing the responsiveness of market actors to price changes, and evaluating the efficiency outcomes of the price mechanism. The research employs a mixed-method approach combining theoretical modeling, comparative statics, and secondary data analysis from existing microeconomic literature. Graphical models of supply and demand, elasticity measures, and equilibrium adjustment processes are utilized to illustrate theoretical relationships. Research findings indicate that the price mechanism plays a central role in coordinating economic activities, minimizing shortages and surpluses, and transmitting information among market participants. The findings confirm that equilibrium outcomes differ significantly based on demand elasticity, supply constraints, and market competitiveness. This research provides an integrated analytical framework that synthesizes classical equilibrium theory with modern efficiency analysis. In particular, it highlights the dynamic nature of equilibrium adjustment, extending traditional static interpretations. The results suggest that policymakers should allow competitive price formation to function with minimal distortion, while also addressing externalities and information asymmetries that hinder efficiency. This study does not empirically test the model using primary data, and future research may incorporate econometric analysis to validate theoretical claims.
