Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) in Nigerian Universities: Problems and Prospects.

Method: The paper used secondary data. The secondary data were collected from both print and online publications through content analysis.

Findings: The findings revealed poor funding, infrastructure facilities shortage, poor supervision, shortage of academic staff, corruption, strike actions and insecurity may be the likely problems that may militate against the effective implementation of Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) in Nigerian Universities. On the part of prospects of Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), the paper identified, capacity building, financial support from international institutions and promised of improved funding as prospects of Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) in Nigerian Universities.

Recommendations: Based on the findings, the paper hereby recommends that increment in the funding of universities, provision of modern infrastructure facilities, employment of more academic staff, deployment of artificial intelligence and ICT for effective monitoring of funds to curtain corruption in the system, implementation of agreement entered into with the unions in the universities to prevent strike and provision of security in all the universities by solving the factors aiding insecurities.
